My first session was Raise The Roof at The Red Deer in Sheffield, and it will always hold a special place in my heart for being my first, and for the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I continually thank them for tolerating me, even if it’s just because I lower the average age by [REDACTED]. Story-wise, this was just an amusing idea brought to a folk conclusion.
lyrics
I know of a place, you may know it well
In fact you may know of the tale that I'll tell
Of a man who will drink but he will pay for naught
He's Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
A fresh face he'll find, and cosy up to
He'll start up a tale, but afore he is through
His memory will fade unless a pint is brought
He's Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
But when the pints done, Teddy's not done
"A whiskey" he'll cry, "A whiskey for one"
And he'll never shut up 'less you bring it right now
He's Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
And after it's drunk, his tale he won't end
He'll go grab his coat, he'll say "Farewell friend!"
Then he's off through the door and you'll see no more
Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
At last, the people finally gave in
"Teddy" they said, "We've had enough of your sin"
"You'll pay for a pint, and you'll pay right now"
Poor Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
But Teddy cried out, and clutched at his chest
"Dear friends, my heart makes me feel not quite my best"
Then he cried out loud just before he hit the floor
Poor Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
A doctor called out above all the furore
"He's dead for his liver couldn't take it no more"
And the whole crowd fell silent and started to mourn
For Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge.
So Teddy is gone, and the scam is now done
But it seems it was all part of Teddy's fun
I swear that last week I saw just down the road
Teddy the Red Deer Scrooge!
